  • Is this a ... scone?

  • Alternate: insted of cooking that one half of the strawberries cut them up and pour sugar over them and let it sit in the fridge for a half hour. A syrup forms and it tastes fresh.

  • Great tip for strawberries: add a little bit of ground pepper. This will enhance the flavour and it's amazing! Just don't get too excited, too much pepper isn't what we want ;)

  • If you intend to make this recipe... then here's a quick note about Kosher Salt. All it means these days is large salt crystals. Otherwise, Kosher Salt really doesn't have any meaning. Kosher has nothing to do with quality. It's ridiculous to suggest, as the speaker in this video does, 'everything is better with Koser Salt.' That seems more like a religious reference... Large crystal salt can be useful in a few recipes. Not in this one. We found this recipe is good but it's better if you use the salt Chef Thomas Keller recommended to us; Diamond Crystal Sea Salt Fine Crystals. Moreover, I've noticed a trend at BA to require Kosher Salt in many/most/all their recipes. Weird. And misleading too.

  • This recipe looks berry berry good and jamtastic! Yes, we all hold the food processor blade from underneath, except for the folks that haven't thought it through yet, but we don't let it go, allowing to to fall because that ruins the point of that tip completely. It helps if you spray the dishes (scoop) with a non-stick product before you scoop so that the biscuit drops onto the half sheet pan in one piece and look better once they are baked. By the way, spillage is a requirement, thats what turns this recipe into a supermodel.

  • Made this last night and it was so good. The cornmeal in the shortcake helps cut the sweetness and adds some heartiness. I overworked the dough after adding the heavy cream, wasn't too much of an issue. The biscuits were a little flat coming out of the oven because of it but I was still able to cut them open. Once it hit my boyfriends lips he didn't speak until he was finished, exclaiming "10/10." Only thing I think could be improved on is the strawberry and whipped cream to biscuit ratio. That's personal preference though and I loaded these bad boys up. Definitely worth making at home and ridiculously easy! Only took a couple minutes to hand whip the cream with chilled bowl and whisk.

  • Huh, our “strawberry shortcake” actually was always made with angel food cake.

    • zlivvy I much prefer the cake. The shortcakes are always dry and hard in comparison. They're like bad scones.
